Bamgbose Towobola: OOULAWSS FEMALE PERSONALITY OF THE WEEK

IG: May we know you ma'am?

Towobola: I am Bamgbose Towobola, also known as Bambii
I am a 400lvl law student, a feminist and a fashion enthusiast

IG: What are your hobbies?

Towobola: Reading African literature, watching fashion commentaries and Building Outfits

IG: Have you always wanted to study Law?

Towobola: No, I wanted to study medicine and specialize in ophthalmology but I went to a coaching class after my Jss 3 break where we were coached on major subjects in humanities, science and commercial. I found the humanities subjects particularly interesting, and during those classes I was exposed to activism, politics and human rights thereby making me think of a  career as a lawyer. When I got back to school proper, I went for science classes and found myself longing to study the humanities subjects, so one Tuesday, I stood up went to the counselor in my school to change to humanities, with the hope of having a career as a lawyer and here I am today, a 400 lvl law student at Olabisi Onabanjo university.

IG: What has it been like for you in the faculty of Law?

Towobola: To be candid, it has been a roller coaster ride of various emotions. It has been exhilarating, exhausting and enlightening.

IG: What positions have you held?

Towobola: I served as the Treasurer in the 20/21 Administration of the OOULAWSS
I am presently the Vice President 1 of the Intellectual Property Club
I am also the Public Relations Officer of Inner Temple, OOU
I am also serving as a member of the OOUSUG Medical Committee

IG: How have you balanced your reading, hobbies and positions you've held?

Towobola: It is said that there is time for everything, time management and having a routine had helped me a lot.

IG:  In difficult times, what has kept you going?

Towobola: My goals, my mum, knowing that life is never a bed of roses, and a saying by Schopenhauer that Life is given not to just enjoy but to overcome.

IG: Your love for fashion us very noticable, what fashion tip would you like like to give people in the faculty?

Towobola: Firstly,  it’s imperative to have a well ironed and clean white shirt to give you a very refined look.
Layering with waist coats/ blazers, improves the basic look of white and black  and female law students should go for perfectly tailored waist line blazers.

IG: What sparked your interest in feminism? Have you always been a feminist or an incident led you to being a feminist?

Towobola: grew up with 3 brothers and we were treated equally, I also went to an only girls’ secondary school and believe me if I tell you that the girls did it all, we arguably had one of the best student band, we had girls lead over 2000 people, we did labour I.e cut the highest of grasses, and many other things, we were very self sufficient only for me to graduate and hear girls can’t be class rep from a colleague, I had a lecturer who constantly talked about girls being weak, or how people zoned some behaviors, careers or even way of life to boys and girls, so it all came rushing, this was why the boys in my coaching class thought I was aggressive when I didn’t agree with them, this was why my teacher told me to argue but take it easy but will not say the same to the boy I was arguing with during my coaching class, I realized we lived in a world that didn’t see me as a full human capable of different things , I was disappointed, you can say that those were highly formative years for me as a feminist because I was confused, I couldn’t believe the things people believed and said to shrink women, to belittle us. Becoming a feminist, I came from the point of view of knowing  and not speculating that women were very much capable of all the things they opined she couldn’t, that women were full human beings entitled to equal rights because I couldn’t see any reason why women couldn’t enjoy equal rights. I randomly will speak against inequalities and soon I was embraced by like minds, started to read more and since then I have never looked back and I will never look back.

IG: What would you like to see going on for women in the society?

Towobola: I will like to see a lot of women in leadership positions at all levels, schools and the society at large. I would also love to see a lot of women in STEM (Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) careers.

IG: What advice would you give students who would love to excel?

Towobola: Take everything that will affect your life very seriously, read extensively, if it has to do with practice, practice well, any thing worth doing is worth doing well. Life has an affinity of rewarding people who put in the work.

IG: Looking back at your journey in the faculty of law, OOU, what would you have done differently?

Towobola: Nothing except that I would take my seniors advice of putting 200% effort in studying 😂

IG: Do you have any philosophy of life?

Towobola: I believe the purpose of human life is to serve, and to show compassion and to have the will to help others.

IG: Thank you so much for your time. It has been a wonderful interview and on behalf of the OOULSS, I wish you success in future endeavors.

Towobola: Thank you ❤️❤️
